A trademark is an umbrella term of intellectual property that consists of recognized marks and symbols used by a corporation or individual to claim exclusive rights to certain goods, services, or ideas. To obtain this, one needs to first apply for trademark registration. Once the trademark process is completed and registration is granted, the ® symbol can be utilized. It is valid for ten years from the date of registration.
